Draft Guideline: Assessment of environmental noise emissions

The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (the department) is seeking public comment on the draft Guideline: Assessment of environmental noise emissions.

This guideline is part of a series of technical documents aimed at providing applicants guidance on the department's requirements for the assessment of emissions under Part V of the Environmental Protection Act 1986 (EP Act).

The guideline sets out the department's information requirements for the analysis of noise emission impact for prescribed premises, and will apply to all applications for a works approval or licence (including amendments) under Part V of the EP Act  with an identified noise emission component. The guideline also provides technical support for environmental impact assessment of proposals under Part IV of the EP Act and consideration of noise emissions from premises that are not prescribed premises.

Consultation period and providing feedback

The department welcomes all feedback on the draft guideline. All feedback received will be considered in finalising the guideline.

The public consultation period will run for 12 weeks from Wednesday 16 June 2021 until Friday 10 September 2021.

All submissions must be received by 5pm (WST) on Friday 10 September 2021.

Information sessions

The department is holding two public information sessions on the draft Guideline: Assessment of environmental noise emissions. These will be delivered in person at the department's office in Joondalup and also online via Microsoft Teams. There are limited spots available for both the in-person and online sessions. You must register to secure a place at a session.

Please note Session 1 and 2 cover the same material. Session 2 is a repeat of Session 1.



What happens next

Following the completion of the public consultation period, the department will:

  • review and summarise comments received into a consultation summary report;
  • consider the feedback received and revise the guideline as appropriate; and
  • publish the final Guideline: Assessment of environmental noise emissions on the department’s website along with the consultation summary report.
